Organized by Space Faculty Pte Ltd, the 18th International Space Challenge (ISC) is a premier global competition that tasks youths (ages 13–25) with designing high-tech solutions for the final frontier. This year’s theme, "Unlocking Space Capabilities through AI," pushes participants to integrate machine learning and neural networks into satellite missions to enhance performance and sustainability.
The Challenge Teams must select a past or present satellite mission and design an innovative AI upgrade. Proposals should focus on:
Core Technology: Using AI for autonomous de-orbiting, debris reduction, or collision avoidance (Space Situational Awareness).
Strategic Resources: Optimizing orbital slots and radio frequencies, or recovering materials to extend mission life.
Custom Missions: Tackling unique challenges for rovers or space stations.
Tracks & Deliverables
Starter (Ages 13–18): Focuses on curiosity and awareness. Deliverables include a 10-page report and an A0 research poster.
Advanced (Ages 18–25): Focuses on career-ready innovation and high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). Deliverables include a comprehensive 40-page technical report.
All participants gain access to expert mentorship and webinars covering AI ethics, model architecture, and hardware feasibility, bridging the gap between imaginative STEM concepts and real-world space industry demands.
The SST Astronomy Club rose to the challenge, deploying SEVEN dedicated teams to research, design, and document their cosmic solutions.
