CCA Training Hours:
·       Fridays 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. (Weekly)
·       Fridays 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. (Monthly)

Currently, the club is using the following optical instruments:

·       Celestron Omni XLT 150 – 6″ Newtonian Reflector Telescope on CG-4 Equatorial Mount
·       Orion StarBlast 6i IntelliScope
·       Coronado PST40 Solar Scope
·       Portable 90mm Maksutov Telescope
·       Ritchie-Chretien Computerised Telescope 
·       Celestron Binoculars x 3

We are also using the following apparatus:

·       Orion Telescope Camera

·       RSPEC Spectroscopic system
·       Dagik Earth Projection System
·       RADIOJOVE Radiotelescope system
·       INSPIRE Radiotelescope system

Students are interested to join the club may contact Mr. Tan at tan_hoe_teck@sst.edu.sg . Selection for the CCA is done through interviews and quizzes during the Secondary 1 Orientation each year.

Activities
The main activities included field trips, competitions and workshops. We made use of computer simulations, documentaries, science fiction movies and model building in our learning.  

Field Trips
The club conducts field trip every year to places such in Malaysia and Indonesia, where the telescopes are put to good use. 
     
Desaru Astronomy Field Trip 2013(Bintan), 2014(Port Dickson) and 2015(Desaru).

Talks and Workshops

 Dagik Earth Talk by Dr Lee I-Te, AOGS member and Space Weather Scientist from Taiwan

Competitions
The club also participates in Astronomy quizzes such as the Nanyang Polytechnic Astroquiz, the Astrigue Astronomy Quiz and the Galacsi Astronomy Quiz.
  


Kat Yong Jie won the Gold Medal in Alliance group during the NYP Astro-quiz in 2014

In 2015, SST came back with Silver awards in Most Creative Category, Alliance Category and Team Award Category. We also achieved a Bronze award in Alliance Category and Merit award in School participant Category.


In 2014 and 2015, we participate in the Cassini Essay Writing competition organized by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
   
In 2014, we won the Explorer award for the most active participation in the Cassini Essay Writing competition. Furthermore, four students were given honorable mention awards.


In 2015, SST Astronomy club achieved 3 Honourable Mention and 2nd place in the Cassini Essay writing competition. Furthermore, Chiu Chen Ning’s essay was published in the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s website reproduced below:
