Astronomy2017 (18-19 Feb 2017)

ASTRONOMY2017 is a two day event on 18th and 19th February (Sat and Sun) held at the Marina Bay Sands Artscience Museum (Level 4).
Touted as the largest Astronomy event in Singapore this year, a variety of interactive booths, planetarium shows, digital imagery showcases, as well as solar and stargazing sessions were held. The event covers all aspects of Astronomy, from Astrophysics and Space technology to practical astronomy and astrophotography.

The SST Astronomy Club, together with other organisations such as SINGASTRO, NUS, NTU, Yale-NUS college, Institute of Physics, HCI and Singapore Polytechnic, came together to put up this diverse Astronomy event.

The SST booth name was: LISTENING TO THE UNIVERSE. The abstract is as follows: Over the last 5 years, the School of Science and Technology, Singapore, have been conducting Astronomy-based Research for its students. Amongst the more interesting are the projects based on Radio-telescopes. There are various models of radio telescopes available for the students to work on. We will be show casing the following radio telescopes that are relevant to the amatuer astronomers: RADIOJOVE, INSPIRE, SSID, SSRT and World Radion Meteor Detection System. These telescopes operate on different frequencies to detect emissions from the planet Jupiter, Lightning, Solar Flares and Meteors. This exhibition booth aims to open up the radio spectrum where we can “hear” the universe.

Over sixteen SST Astronomy club students were involved in this event. They were:
